The festival of Halloween was started in the Celtic festival of Samhain. It is also a Catholic holiday known as All Saint's Day. It was belived by the ancient Celts, that on this particular day, the border between our world and the otherworld became thin. As a reult spirits, both harmful and unharmful roamed freely in our world. The main purpose to disguising oneself by wearing masks was to prevent harm.

Is tricking and treating dangerous? It is a question, we should all be asking ourselves this Halloween. Studies reveal that, the number of children running into motor vehicles, between the age groups of 4 to 13 years, on 31st October is four times more than the other days of the year. Most of these accidents are caused due to negligence, especially on the part of parents. They simply let their children wander on the streets without much or no supervision at all. As a result, these kids are carelessly allowed to run on the roads, making them prone to meeting with fatal accidents. Kids, who are without the company of an adult, are often prone to getting lost on an occasion like Halloween.

Many a times, parents get costumes for their kids for Halloween, without taking the safety part into consideration. One must ensure, that the masks worn by these kids have eye-holes big enough, so that it doesn't block their eye-sight while they are wandering on the streets. Children should easily be able to walk in the costumes worn by them, so that they don't trip over their costumes while running around. While picking Halloween costumes for children, bright colors should be prefered over the dull ones so that, they can be easily noticed by vehicles. Even the candy given to them should be carefully examined by an adult before kids consume it.

Tricking or Treating can be a very good tradition provided, it is played in a very healthy way. Children should refrain from performing harmful pranks on their neighbors, who don't give them candy. If these guidelines are followed and proper safety measures are taken, the festival of Halloween can be a lot of fun and an occasion to look forward to each year by everyone.
