There are three steps you need to take to do this and speed up your slow computer. These are as follows.

1. Remove Resource hungry processes.

2. Get rid of malware and malicious software.

3. Upgrade or fix programs and upgrade hardware.

#1 Resource hungry software.

The root of a slow PC can be down to software installed and running on your computer. Many packages consume up to half your memory before you even do anything at all! Removing programs you do not use can free up a lot of this and speed up a slow running computer.

#2 Anti-virus software is resource hungry. You need this software but some types eat memory until your PC grinds to a halt. The easy way to verify if this is happening to you is this. Disconnect your computer from the net and then disable and close your anti-virus software for a short period of time. If your computer speeds up then you probably need to look for a different type if antivirus software.

#3 Spyware, malicious software and viruses.

Everyone has run into problems at one time or another with a virus alert or warning messages while surfing web sites. You might even accidentally click on what appears to be a genuine warning message that then installs software on your computer before you even know what is happening. The next thing you know you have a slow running computer on your hands.

The answer to this is to ensure the following.

1. Your antivirus software is up to date.

2. You run a virus scan every day.

3.You download and run a system and registry scanner. This will catch malware, spyware and viruses that bypass your antivirus and install themselves on your computer. They need to install a file in the registry to run and your registry scanner is your last line of defence.

#4 upgrade out of date programs.

If your programs are out of date they can slow down your PC, either because they have problems that need updates or for other reasons and may be consuming a lot more memory than they need. Check windows and all your programs for updates through the manufacturers and windows update on your windows start menu. Doing this will speed up a slow running computer and make it run like new.
