The demand among consumers for wooden doors may be rising

, if the comments of one writer are to be believed.

In a piece for the Independent, Kate Watson-Smyth suggested that due to the current economic conditions, it is easier for many to extend their residences than it is to move. For this reason, retailers may be experiencing an increase in interest for their pine doors and other similar items.

She said: "Adding another room is usually the most reliable way to add value to a property so if you can combine the selling power of a fabulous new kitchen in a new, and/or larger, space then you should be onto a winner."

Indeed, it is certainly the case that the housing market has slowed down and many people are concentrating on making improvements to their dwellings rather than trading up.

In some cases, this may be because they are simply trying to enhance their living spaces for their own enjoyment, while in others, it could be an attempt to increase their value before putting them up for sale.

Ms Watson-Smyth pointed out that people need to be tactical when choosing their wooden doors and other products for their properties.

She said: "The most obvious solution is to go into the loft space, although some houses convert better than others. You will get an extra bedroom and a bathroom into a narrow Victorian terrace but it will have a sloping ceiling and the room will be small. In a 1930s square house, you will do much better."

As well as economic factors, another thing that may have motivated consumers to invest in pine doors and other items for around their abodes is the increasing number of home improvement shows on TV, which emphasise the importance of realising the full potential of spaces.
