Jailbreak is legal on your iPhone

In July 2010 American Copyright Office ruled out that the jailbreak process for iPhone is not to be considered as a violation of federal copyright laws. This was great news for many iPhone users who are used to use the jailbreak and unlock process for their iPhones. It means that they are in no legal trouble for modifying their own handset. It is important to know that there is a significant difference between jailbreak and unlock for iPhone. When you jailbreak your iPhone you can install software which is outside of iTunes App Store. To unlock your iPhone means to make it work on another network carrier, not only officially supported AT&T. You can perform on the same iPhone both the jailbreak and the unlock or you can only jailbreak if you are on AT&T and you don't need to carrier unlock.

This was a great thing for us because we think that it is great if individual users can have a word about what they want to do with their own hardware. Jailbreak in some cases if you do not know what you are doing, can cause technical issues or other risks, but those risks are individual instead of collective guilt and potential legal punishment for whole jailbreaking community.

It comes as no surprise that Apple is bitterly opposed to and dissatisfied with this decision.

They claim that main reason for their stance is that iPhone users are risking the fantastic user experience when they jailbreak. They also point to possible malware in unauthorized apps.

There is certainly some truth in this accusations and predictions but honestly, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do much more with your iPhone than what apple allows you, and regarding the security issues, you are never completely safe no matter what OS and anti malware software you use. If you just uphold common sense security measures, like adding only trusted apps from veerified sources you will most probably never encounter any problem.

Apple's products are great, this is why we use them, but sometimes it is just not good enough. Why shouldn't you have the best experience possible whether it comes from iTunes App Store or from Cydia?

Did you already jailbreak your iPhone? Why or why not? Do let us know in the comments bellow.
