This unique Festival offers you an opportunity to observe the sturdy symbol of royal Rajputs-the elephants.

The Elephant Festival of Rajasthan is held every year in Jaipur-which is the Pink City of Rajasthan. This matchless event is celebrated one day before the great festival Holi-the festival of colors. Even in the ancient times, Elephants have been used as a royalty symbol especially in our Indian society. People believe that the elephant-headed God Ganesha is the foremost to entire gods and it is said that the Ganesh is the remover of all the obstacles of our life. So elephants are used as one of the most important part of different events like processions, marriage, ceremonies etc. Even they have historical importance also and were considered as one of the most significant part in any of battlefield.

In Elephant Festival, elephants are clothed and groomed beautifully with embroidered and colorful parasols and velvet rugs on the full moon day of Phalgun Purnima. They are decorated nicely with heavy elephant jewellery and also with beautiful bells. You will also like to see different traditional Indian motifs painted nicely on the bodies of Elephants. All these decoration of the elephants are done by their Mahouts.

Usually this great festival starts with the huge procession of the beautifully painted and decorated elephants offering a royal look. The arrival of the elephants along with their mahouts to the ground is associated with loud blows of bankiya and sound of nagadas. All the female elephants are the participants of this colorful festival. The special features of this great festival are Elephant race, Elephant polo and also the tug of war between 19 men and women and the elephant. Here you can also enjoy the live performances of musicians and dancers. In this grand festival you can also enjoy lancers on horses, palanquins and camels and chariots. This festival is visited by a huge crowd. It requires a large space so it is organized in Jaipur Polo Ground.
