Popularly called as Jeff State, the Jefferson State Community College is a public two year college based in Alabama. As a part of the Alabama Community College System, the college has campuses in Shelby, Pell City and Clanton as well.

The college which is accredited via the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools facilitates the perfect transfer to a 4 year institute.Apart from more than 100 associate's degree programs offered by the college, the campus also supports career & professional certificate programs, non-credit as well as continuing education options.

Running on the popular semester pattern of study, the college supports distance learning and has proper weekend college facilities. The admission process works on the open admission system and accepts credits in terms of Life Experience' as well.

In terms of student enrollments, popular study courses include business, science based disciplines like chemistry, biomedical equipment technology, biology, child development, communications, criminal justice, interior design, culinary arts etc.

During admissions, an ACT composite score of above 16 is expected from students who haven't completed high school from an accredited institution.

Financial Aid

More than half of the students receive some form of financial aid. Federal grants, student loans, need based & merit based scholarships along with work-study jobs are available for students enrolling at the campus. Financial aid can be applied with the standard FAFSA form along with documentary support.

It is recommended to submit applications before the month of May starts for better consideration. For in-state tuition and scholarships, students have to submit Alabama residency records.

Remedial services along with academics based career counseling/placement centers have been made available by the college. The college doesn't offer any on-campus housing facilities, but housing facilities in the neighboring areas (including the greater Birmingham area) are more than decent.

Athletics

Talking in terms of athletics, sports teams from Jeff State are popularly known as Pioneers. Pioneers participate in the NJCAA and the Alabama Community College Conference. Disciplines of baseball and softball form the 2 most popular sports played on campus.

On the whole, Jefferson Community College is spreading its wings towards being a center of better education and learning, much like the Cambridge Encyclopedia (in terms of educational systems)
