Jet Airways Still Dominating Domestic Air Traffic, When Others Witnessed Sharp Fall In October 2012

Domestic passenger traffic registered a sharp fall in October 2012

, while the national flag carrier, Air India has boasted its market share as per the latest data of Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The passenger traffic fell by 15.7% from 5.4 million in October last year to 4.55 million in October 2012. Air India is the only airlines, which registered 1.5% growth in October 2012 over September this year.

After exit of Kingfisher Airlines, which had 16.5 % market share in October last year, domestic airlines like Jet Airways, Air India and Indigo have recorded growth in their market share. The national carrier now has market share of 20.8%, behind IndiGos 27.8% and Jet Airways 24.7%. According to aviation experts, raise in air fares by 20%-30% as compared the air fare of last year is the main reason of this massive decline. Due to the increased airfare, passenger traffic fell 2.5% between January and October.

Jet Airways, the second largest airlines in India is not only dominating air traffic but also dominating other sectors too. In this year the airline achieved another landmark of one million fans on Facebook. It became the first airline from India to achieve such milestones.
