. The role of a nutritionist is to study the foods in which we eat and how the foods affect our bodies in relation to our health, our diet and illness.

There are a variety of nutritionists employed within the health sector, as well as the commonly required places such as the food manufacturing industry, hospitals, GPs, research companies etc. The studying of nutrients within the foods we eat, helps people to understand how the nutrients within the foods affects their health and diet, therefore being a nutritionist can have big advantages.

The role of the nutritionist is to communicate and work with healthy individuals and patients to help and assist them with their current health status, whether it needs any improvements on the way they eat or how certain foods affect the way their bodies function. Nutritionists within research companies can find out which type of nutrients are beneficial to which part of the body and how we can go about extracting more of the required nutrients and incorporating it within our foods or medicinal use.

There are different qualifications that can be studied to become a nutritionist and there are a variety of colleges and universities that provide the degrees and courses for individuals. The university or college courses will provide the individual with the knowledge they require to become a nutritionist. There is also a society set up for people looking to study nutrition, to know more about nutrition, becoming a nutritionist and being a member call the Nutrition Society.

To become a nutritionist, it is important that the person have good researching skills, be comfortable in giving advice to others, have good communication skills and a relative food or science background. As this role involves a lot of scientific knowledge and expertise, having experience or background knowledge would be beneficial to the role. There are professional bodies set up called the Interim Professional Body for Nutrition as well as registering for the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists

(UKVRN). Although nutritionist roles are hard to come by, it is still worth studying for and becoming one because there are lots of great benefits and knowledge gained within this role.
