John Terry to become England Captain Again
England manager Fabio Capello is not exactly an individual who has a worldwide reputation

for performing dramatic U-turns on important managerial decisions, with the Italian fairly well-known during his time in football management for standing by decisions and choices which appear to be a little odd or controversial. However, England fans may be about to see a change in tradition where this reputation is concerned, with the England boss thought to be considering exactly how to solve the crisis currently surrounding the England captaincy.
The problem with the captaincy has arisen from the fact that, according to the English press, Rio Ferdinand is unlikely to recover full fitness in time for the upcoming European Championship qualifier against Wales. With Ferdinand thought to be finding it difficult to make a full and quick recovery from a troublesome injury to his calf that has kept him out of action recently for Premier League leaders Manchester United, Capello's problems have been further compounded by the fact that Steven Gerrard, vice-captain, has no chance of making the game after undergoing groin surgery recently.
It would, therefore, seem as if the situation is primed for Chelsea's John Terry to make a hugely controversial return to the England captaincy, just over a year after the Blues captain was stripped of his national responsibilities after speculation in the national press concerning his private life made the front pages and interrupted England's World Cup preparations.
With Terry a solid performer so far this season in the Chelsea back line for a team that has needed leadership and inspiration during difficult times, Capello may find himself under sustained pressure from some to look to the former national team captain for guidance as England seek to take control in their qualifying group.
However, there will of course be those who use such a move to pour more scorn on Capello and his leadership, with many in the press always quick to label the England manager as weak and guileless. How he plays out this situation may turn out to be one of the defining moments of both his career and England's long-term future on the national scene.
