Journaling and Your Scrapbook Hobby
It is always fascinating to go through old photo albums, and I often wonder if those people were here today, what would they tell us about that particular occasion.Without journaling, in the future your photographs will just be pictures with no meaning for other people looking at the albums.I notice that a lot of people seem to shy away from journaling in their scrapbooking. Journaling is important in your scrapbooking so that people browsing through your albums in the future can see and feel exactly what was captured in that particular moment. It is so much more enjoyable to go through an album where there is a story to be read, rather than just names, places and dates. Don't be scared to write in detail, so that your photo's can be complimented with an actual story. Lots of scrap bookers just don't know where to start with their journaling.Start by buying yourself a small notebook. Choose one that can fit in your handbag, and then you will have it with you when ideas come to mind. Don't pressure yourself to filling the notebook, just write down ideas as they come. Write down clever quotes or poems that you come across in your daily life.Try this exercise. On a clean page, write down numbers 1 to 9, and then next to each of the numbers write down something that you enjoy. This can be your spouse, child, dog or chocolate - whatever comes to mind.Once you have your nine items, go back and write a description for each one. For instance if you have rainy days on your list, make it soft warm rainy days. Once you have added something to each word, you are ready to make some sentences. Start by saying I love _______, ________ and _______, but I can't stand ________________. Put something in the last blank that you don't enjoy for a good contrasting element. When you do your next layout, look in your notebook and see what sentences will fit best with the photographs that you have chosen. If you are afraid that your handwriting will mess up your layout, don't be. Everyone has their own special brand of handwriting, and this is what adds that personal touch to your layouts. If you don't want your journaling to be seen, you can always write in a closed mini album attached to your layout, that the reader will have to open to read.Try printing your journaling out on your computer. There are even fonts that look like handwriting. Always leave something of yourself behind for future generations to see.
