jQuery is a new kind of fast and concise JavaScript library which highlights the connection between JavaScripts and HTML, whereas Flash is a multimedia platform which can control vector and raster graphics and even support bidirectional streaming of audio and video. The simplicity of these two applications made it easier to create popular animation and interactivity to a plain and simple webpage, which was impossible before. Adobe Flash was introduced in 1996 and since then it has become the application of choice to enhance the dynamics of web pages. With the introduction of Actionscript, Flash was taken to a complete new and interesting level. Then jQuery was introduced in 2006 and was immediately embraced and became the most favored Javascript to be used by web developers. jQuerys main purpose is to make it less complicated for users to find their way around a document and it works by allowing the developer to place minimum lines of code into HTML elements. Although it is not the most suitable option for 3D or vector based graphics jQuery has its place and some of its characteristics make it even better than Flash.

That isn't to say that Flash does not have its advantages. Flash includes 3D capabilities, ability to display properly in its supported browsers, a built-in user interface as well as other features like its ability to support vector graphics, a variety of fonts and the number of free and available tools that are compatible with it. jQuery on the other hand has a file size that's much smaller than Flash, is compatible with numerous free and professional quality programs and it can be used to add a number of interactivity to many web page elements and its tags. The compatibility of jQuery is way better than flash which includes the ability to view on iPhones, cell phones and PS# and PSP.

Based on the unique abilities of these two applications it is crucial that you realize when you should use one over the other. For example if you plan to produce a Slide Show, Form Validation, Drop-down Menus, Tabbed Panels, Pop-ups & Tool-tips, and Expandable & Collapsible Elements then it's ideal to use jQuery. On the other hand Flash is the better alternative for working with Video or Audio Player, complex Animations, 3Ds and other forms of complex Multimedia . As more plug-ins are made available it can become more and more hard to know what to use but you can make a decision frist by assessing your requirements and then choosing the technology that can be used to achieve your goal.

With the internet on the move, developers are coming out with innovative and new technologies everyday which offers more and more different alternatives and options for the users to get acquainted with and use them to their maximum capabilities.
