Karaoke nights at 10 Downing Street
What you see - A tiring drive through the packed streets of Hyderabad leads us to 10 Downing Street (10D) at Begumpet, one of the most chilled out zones in the city. When we went visiting, the pub was crowded. In fact, it was running out of space for its guests. But then it was Karaoke Night, and 10D is renowned for it. The interiors otherwise are comfortable and the lights soothing.
What you get - Good music, good food and a young, fun to hang with' crowd is what greets you at 10D. The bearers are friendly and the orders are taken fast and brought well in time. Like any other pub, 10D offers a range of alcoholic drinks as well as mocktails for the teetotalers. We tried out Cinderella, a fruit punch and Virgin Mary, a mocktail on the lines of Bloody Mary. 10D does not let you down on both these counts though Virgin Mary requires an acquired taste. Priced at around Rs.150, we found these economical as well. Snacking options are limited but mouth watering. The Paneer tikka and Vegetable nachos that we tried, along with the basket of Potato wedges were the best bet for a crazy night, full of singing. For the non-vegetarian foodies, the Butter chicken here is surely worth a try and so are the Chicken lasagna, Steaks and Chicken tikka.
When it comes to the star of the night, it has to be KJ Anand! The Karaoke Jockey starts off the night urging people to sing, irrespective of the knowledge of music. And then the night rolls out; any song, any genre, any decade; you make the request and the KJ plays it for you. He raps with you, he sings with you and the whole crowd encourages you to go for one more. You can see numerous tired, office goers arrive towards late evenings to let their hair down, hold the microphone, cheer others and have a whale of a time. Our verdict - The Karaoke night at 10D is for everyone. Not once do you feel left out. It's not just for the uninhibited kinds who would sing in front of an audience. If you are among those who like sitting back and hearing others croon, then you can do that too. After all, a karaoke night is not just about singing; it is about cheering too.
The only drawback we found here was that it got cramped, especially towards the end of the night. So if you like to shake a leg when there's music, 10D will not offer you even an inch of space for that. Yet, the KJ keeps the atmosphere buzzing and the crowd motivated. He gets you to hustle' which is basically a simple three-step move on the floor. It's fun to be a part of the crowd that gets together and does it, right in front of the karaoke screen. Karaoke nights at 10D, on the whole, is an economical way to have fun and MetroMela totally recommends them. There is ample parking space available. A little kid outside sells beautiful red roses. Those partying with loved ones could keep this in mind.
