Kayaks For Different Kayaking Types
Kayaking and canoeing are recreational and fishing sports that have gained popularity among many watersport enthusiasts
. Different kayak types are used for varying forms of kayaking, which incorporates inflatable kayak, plastic, carbon fibre and glass fibre. Recreational kayaks are widely used for touring on flat-water rivers, streams and lakes. These are used for fishing and photography too. Recreational kayaks have larger cockpits and wider beams, making the entry and exit easier for the paddlers. Sea kayaks are especially designed for travel on sea and have a capacity for three, although travelling by one is the most common. They have a longer waterline, cargo capacity and stability. Recreational kayaks can also be used for sea kayaking but they do not perform as well as specifically designed sea kayaks. Skin-on-frame and sit-on-top are the two main types of sea kayaks used today. Sit-on-top kayaks are used for scuba diving and fishing.
Surf kayaks are a surf boat type that has a flat bottom and hard edges. These use ocean waves instead of moving water to function. Surf kayaks have two versions namely, High Performance and International Class. The International Class boats have a smoother and a greater flow and considered as long boarding in kayaking. Surf skis are also used for racing and surf rescue in the sea. These can be used on lakes too. Whitewater kayaking is one of the more famous kayaking types and a playboat or a creekboat is often the choice for this sport. Kayaks come in many different forms designed for the function they serve and the type of water they use. An inflatable kayak is usually appropriate on rivers and calm waters while reliable seaworthy inflatable kayak types are available too. Inflatable kayaks are more convenient due to their portability, durability, stability and storage facility. These are inflated by foot, hand or pumps. The paddles vary according to the kayak type you choose.
All paddlers are required to wear a life jacket for safety requirements. Spray skirts are used especially in whitewater and sea kayaking to keep the water out of the kayak. The skirt must fit both paddlers and the kayak without getting in the way. Helmets are mostly a safety precaution in whitewater and surf kayaking. Wetsuits, gloves and dry bags are common kayaking essentials used by paddlers while a rope bag is recommended for cases of emergency and danger. Carrying a knife and a float bag are encouraged too as safety precautions. An inflatable kayak will require you to carry the air pump in the carry bag to inflate the kayak when you need to.
