There can be any number of fun excuses to give promotional merchandise to staff. A nice cooler to take to the beach for an employee that hasn't missed a day in a year, would show appreciation. Giving out a new logo laptop bag to the office worker of the month is a nice gesture. Even if it is nothing more than a surprise for having the most well decorated cubicle, it will make an employee feel more at home.
