After time, the buildup of product will affect the performance of your styling tool.

The sometimes gummy buildup will prevent the tools from moving smoothly and evenly through the hair. In addition, it will alter the way the heat is applied. This will affect the results you get from your styling tool. Flat irons are particularly susceptible to buildup because of how they are commonly used pulled through hair. After awhile, it will take far more time to get the results you desire with your styling tool.

For best results, clean your tools at least once a week, even if you can't see the buildup with your naked eye.
