Some drugs have moderate effects and are often used and bought without prescription from a doctor. Other drugs need monitoring and careful dosage and thus require doctor's advise for intake.

The analgesic effects of drug and alcohol intake make them highly attractive to users. Who would not want to be free from pain anyway? The danger however, is imminent when there is abuse of these substances. The creeping problem of addiction to alcohol and drugs is higher these days compared to the past targeting young adults as its victims. Illegal selling of prescription drugs has become a trend among university students. On the other hand, minor teens can fake identifications and purchase strong liquor from convenience stores. Social vigilance and awareness as well as campaigns against addiction should be part in every community. The threat of addiction is real and the consequences are long term.

Reality is here. It tells us that our society isn't perfect and indeed addiction is ever present. Prescription medications are increasingly abused for recreational needs. Social problems are growing where alcohol seems to be the comforting answer to problems. The rapid increase of addiction victims causes us to be overwhelmed with concern. There is still hope for all of us. Recovery from addiction can happen with the help of willing and patient individuals. The family plays a vital role in making this happen. Support of good pals and associates makes it bearable for alcohol and drug dependents to get back on track and live fuller lives.

Treatment for addiction can only come if the one addicted is ready. Enforced treatment is not going to work. Desire and Acceptance to be better must be the first step towards this. There are many available methods of treatment around us. But the effectiveness of any treatment lies not just on the method but primarily on the person involved. Patience and greater love towards those addicted is essential to the whole course of treatment. The hope that things will get better for an addict helps him/her to focus and stay on the path of recovery.
