If you ever decide to analyze the resumes of successful candidates, you will find out that all (ignoring a small number of exceptions) applicants have mentioned mostly those skills which the employer is asking for. Further, you will notice job experience related to current opening is highlighted well.

These two points inspire confidence in employers about the capabilities of a candidate and increases his or her chances of being called for an interview in person.

3.Correct and Updated Contact Information

It has been found that majority (>90 %) of successful job applicants have their contact information mentioned in on all three documents job application, cover letter and resume they send to their employer. The documents contain the same telephone number(s), email address(es) and postal address and no part this information is obsolete.

In contrast, about three quarters of unsuccessful candidates either not include this information on all three documents or, if they do, there are discrepancies in it.

4.Language of the Resume

The use of industry specific words gives an impression that a candidate has done some research before applying for the job. It is advisable to spend some time reviewing vocabulary related to your position, company and industry. The winning applicants resumes never miss on this.

Besides that, it has also been found that impressive resumes have far fewer grammatical and spelling mistakes that non-impressive ones. Typos or any other language related mistakes may leave a wrong impression on your employer and destroy your chances of getting a job even before the personal interview.

5.Style and Looks
