Keyword Density - Your Alarm Clock

The countless hours spent preparing, designing and implementing the sites are senselessly squandered; the sites sleep in utter silence. They have no keywords; no one can find them.

Keywords are the bread of life, fountain of youth and well of wisdom for websites. Keyword density is the primary measurement for pinpointing the proper amount of keywords to include in a web page. These two interlocking concepts are the quintessential methods a Webmaster uses to connect with viewers.

Keywords are special topic words. They are terms and phrases intentionally written within a web page. For instance, the writer of some articles about computer operating systems might assign the keywords Microsoft, Apple, and OS to his or her articles. He or she would then write the articles specifically including those particular words and include them in the HTML Meta tags.

When a viewer types words or phrases into a search engine bar, the search engine uses those word or phrases as keywords. The search engine will return results that include those particular terms, either in the text or as specified in the HTML Meta tags.

The number of keywords in a web page divided by the total amount of words on the web page equals keyword density. HTML coding is not counted as words on a web page.

Most Internet marketing experts recommend a keyword density of 2-5%. Any less than 2%, and a search engine may not place importance on the document. Any more than 6%, and the web page is likely to be flagged by the search engine for spamming. Search engines may also cry foul if keywords are plugged in nonsensically.

But optimum density is about more than the total sum. Keywords should be placed strategically throughout a document to get the best reception. Primary terms should be placed in titles, headers, sub headers, and within the first 100 words and/or paragraph of a document. Keywords located in image captions, links and regular text will receive the least attention.

So stop yawning and awaken your website with savvy keyword density.
