Khao Sok is located in the Surat Thani province just a few hours drive from a popular tourist destination in Thailand called Phuket. Khao Sok's rainforest is one of the few untouched rainforests in the world, it's even older and more diverse than the Amazon Rainforest. With lush vegatation and a variety of wildlife I am surprised that most people who visit Thailand have never heard of it. Khao Sok is perhaps most famous for the Bua Phut (Rafflesia kerrii) flower which grows within the park and blooms once a year. If you are a plant enthusiast Khao Sok is a great place to visit.

You can even go camping in the rainforest with an experienced guide who will teach you how to survive in the jungle. Going on your own or with inexperienced guides in not advised.
When people talk about Thailand they talk about the wild nightlife, great shopping or the beautiful beaches, but Khao Sok offers a once in a lifetime experience. Why not get close to nature and visit Khao Sok rainforest in the Khao Sok national park.
Khao Sok is a place you should visit if you ever come to Thailand, believe me it will be one of the most unforgettable experiences you will have. I was there in January 2010 and did not think it would really anything much as I am not really into nature or the outdoors, but this trip has changed my mind forever.
