Most people in American and Canada did not know that the Kia Sportage was actually

brought to market in 1993 but launched in other places of the world except for North America. Kia used cars from 2000 and on would now start to compete with the likes of the Toyota Rav4 and the Honda CR-V for the North American market. This crossover at the time was less advanced than its other competitors so in 2005 it was re-engineered to compete and start winning over more customers.

The Kia Sportage is a crossover vehicle that has both options for all-wheel drive and front wheel drive. There are two engines; the base model is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, 140 horsepower engine, with 136 pounds per feet of torque. The second model is a 2.7-litre, V6, 173 horsepower engine, with 178 pounds per feet of torque. They both come with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual option.

I could only find fuel economy stats for Kia used cars like the Sportage for 2005 and older. From 2005 to 2008 the 2.0-litre engine could get 10 litres, per 100km for city driving and 8 litres, per 100km for highway driving. The 2.7-litre engine could get 12-litres, per 100km for city driving and 9-litres, per 100km for highway driving.

A few things to know before you go out and buy a used Kia Sportage.

1-There is a problem with the radio taking electricity from the battery when the car is off.

2-There is problem with the vehicle stalling because of clogged fuel lines and filter.

3-There are problems with the anti-lock brake system, which there is a fix for.

4-There is an issue with the climate control blowers.

5-Sometime the cruise control wont set properly.

Overall most automotive critics have giving the kia Sportage an above average rating for used vehicle reliability. It should also be said that the Kia is more affordable than the Toyota Rav4 or the Honda CR-V and its used vehicle rating is just as good. If youre in the market for a used crossover vehicle then the Kia Sportage is as good as anything out there and you save a lot of money compared to what you would pay if you bought Honda or Toyota.
