Kicking The Nicotine For Good

You have been a smoker for a very long time and it is getting to the point that you

have started to notice that your breathing is becoming more difficult to do, and that you cannot do the things you could before you started smoking as easily as you used to. You know that smoking is the cause, and you know you should quit, but you are intimidated by the prospect of trying to quit because of the rate of failure of people who try to kick their nicotine addiction. While it is a very difficult task, it is not an impossible one. Here are some tips that may help make your road to a smoke free life an easier one to take.

The first thing you need to do is tell yourself that you are no longer a smoker, and that smoking is no longer a part of your life. Even if you have smoked within the hour of making the decision to quit, it does not change the fact that this is your new mindset, as much of the battle against nicotine is to simply get out of the mind set of being a smoker as soon as you can. If you can shake the mental imagery of yourself as a smoker, then you have already done half of the work.

The next thing you need to keep in mind is that if you are going to quit smoking, you may need to consult your doctor. The reason being that if you are concerned for your health and the toll that smoking has taken on it, then getting yourself checked out cannot hurt, it can only help. You also need to ask your doctor for any advice they may have for curbing nicotine cravings, and if it would be a good idea for you to use any nicotine gum or patches.

However, if you do resolve to use nicotine gum or patches, you need to keep in mind that they are only really good for curbing individual cravings and are meant to help ween you off of tobacco. The gum and patches will not do the work for you, and in some cases, if not used correctly, they can even bring on nicotine cravings, and that would be a major step backwards. Some people are even trying to use e cigarettes to wean themselves off of nicotine because you can get the filters in a no nicotine form, but electronic cigarettes were not really designed to help people stop smoking, but rather as an alternative to smoking.

Just remember that nobody can make you quit smoking besides yourself, so you need to simply stay motivated and you will be able to keep nicotine out of your life.
