This is why the trend of flat screen television, be it LCD TV or LED TV, has over shadowed CRT TV. LED TV and LCD TV follows the same basic rule of backlight picture emission. Therefore, we can call LED TV an LCD TV as well.

Both LED TV and LCD TV have basic 6 layers of screens. The first layer itself decides the difference between the two. An LCD television has HCFL (Hot Cathode Florescent Lamp) or CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp) backlight system whereas an LED TV houses LED backlight. Rest 5 layers are same in both types of TV. The second layer is diffuser which ensures uniform brightness across the panel. The third layer is a Polarizer: two polarizers are placed, one in the front and another at the back of the screen, to assure aligned image throughout. The next layer is LCD panel. An LCD Panel is made of millions of pixels, filled with liquid crystals arranged in a grid, which opens and shuts to let the backlight pass and create images. After this panel, the antiglare coating comes which provides a mirror like finish, making backlight appear brighter. Then the last layer display screen is used. When LCD TVs use LED backlight system, they become full HD LED TV.
