Know Use Of Titanium As Titanium Sheet And Titanium Plate
Pure titanium is nothing but a silver-colored metal
, which is found to be extremely important in different industries for the last 50 years. Density of this metal is found to be approximately 55% steel with similar strength. Titanium is found to be very popular metal due to its durability and biocompatibility. And, use of this metal can be seen in dental implants, artificial joints and surgical equipment. It can also be used in aerospace and automotive industries due to its operating temperature limit up to 500C. Due to its higher demand in aerospace structures manufacturing, it is found to be supplied in any of the forms like, titanium billet, titanium tube, titanium sheet, titanium plate, titanium bar, titanium forging or titanium extrusion.
Besides its use as a structural metal, it is also segregated in small quantities to steels and other alloys in order to increase hardness and strength by the formation of oxides and carbides. Existence of this metal can be seen in two allotropic forms- alpha and beta. Different mechanical properties of this metal are found to be related to these allotropic phases, where beta phase is found to be much stronger and brittle than the alpha phase. Titanium alloys are usually classified as alpha, beta and alpha-beta alloys. Alloys of this metal come with appealing engineering properties, which are found in combination of moderate weight and high strength, property retention at higher temperature and better corrosion-resistance. Besides commercially pure forms of titanium, three principal types of alloys like, alpha, beta and alpha-beta alloys are available in wrought and cast iron forms. In recent times, they have also become obtainable in powder forms. This kind of system of designations for titanium alloys varies from one standard to another. For example, Ti-4A1-3V is found to be the alloy for 4% aluminum and 3% Vanadium.
One of the most important uses of titanium is as the titanium oxide, which is found in the form of a white pigment. It is also used as titanium carbide for hard facings and for cutting tools. Primarily, due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, titanium and its alloys are widely used for the aircraft structures requiring greater heat-resistance than aluminum alloys. Due to its corrosion-resistance property, it is also used for chemical processing, power generation equipment, marine hardware, desalination, valve and pump parts, and prosthetic devices. Ti-6A1-4V alloy is also used in different medical applications as titanium sheet, titanium plate, titanium tube, titanium extrusion, titanium bar, or titanium forging etc.
