People do have an idea on what juvenile delinquency is

. They understand that these are crimes committed by minors or who also are called juveniles, hence the name of the crime. This is an anti-social behavior, oftentimes considered illegal - committed by a minor, an adolescent or a teen-ager. In order for one to be charged with juvenile delinquency, he or she must be below the age of 18 years old.

Crimes committed by minors are handled differently from the crimes committed by adults. There are special trial courts and equally special judges to handle any case involving a youth below 18 years old. However, when the said youth commits a criminal crime, under delinquency, the court decides on the appropriate aging of a minor

There had been many determined reasons that were taken to have an impact on a child's commission of juvenile offense. Contributing factors are nature or nurture principles and also genetics. How the child was brought up and his surroundings during his growing up years are factors that could contribute to the child's being prone to commission of crimes. The environment is really a big factor since the child has the tendency to live and be adaptable with what he sees around him. In the detention centers, concentration on rehabilitating the child is the main function. This will prevent the child from committing other future crimes. In order for the child not to be despised in the society, majority of juvenile delinquency crimes are erased and totally eradicated when the child reaches age 18 - the age of majority. This of course is based on the non-commission of other crimes.

The community and the government are joint in the desire to control juvenile delinquency cases. For this to happen, prevention on the use of drugs, early education and assistance to the erring child are important actions.
