Kunal Khemu - Bollywood Actor
Kunal was born as Kunal Sharik Kheemu on the 12th of May 1983 to actors Ravi and Jyoti Khemu
. He is a Kashmiri Pandit by caste. Khemu family migrated to Delhi and then later to Mumbai when Kunal was seven years old. In Mumbai Kunal stayed in a suburb, Mira Road.
He completed his schooling from Dalmia International School, Mira road. Kunal did his graduation in commerce from Narsee Monjee College, Mumbai. Kunal acting career shot off with him working as child actor on television and movies. His first onscreen appearance was in the Doordarshan series Gul Gulshan Gulfaam (1987), directed by Ved Rahi.
Kunal first film as a child actor was sir (1993) starring naseeruddin shah and pooja bhatt in lead roles. The movie was a moderate hit at the box office. The success of this film helped Kunal bag some more child actor roles. Kunal next movie was mahesh bhatt hum hain rahi pyaar ke (1993) starring aamir khan and juhi chawla.
The film was a huge hit and the performance of the three child actors in the movie was appreciated. Kunal gained the maximum appreciation since he was the youngest in the movie and had a bubbly role. After hum hain rahi pyaar ke (1993), there was no looking back for Kunal.
His next flicks was raja hindustani (1997) starring aamir khan and karisma kapoor. In this movie he played the role of rajnikanth. the movie was again a huge hit and gained Kunal some popularity. In the same year, Kunal starred in bhai (1997) starring suniel shetty and pooja batra.
Mahesh bhatt tamanna (1998) was Kunal next film, starring paresh rawal and pooja bhatt. The movie was done moderate business at the box office. Kunal also acted in dushman (1998) where he played a small character of bhim.
Kunal last movie as child actor was zakhm (1998) starring ajay devgn, pooja bhatt, and sonali bendre.
Kunal played the role of young ajay. The movie was critically acclaimed. After zakhm (1998) Kunal took a break from acting for six years to complete his education. Kunal made a comeback in films as an adult in 2005. He featured in the film kalyug (2005) produced bymukesh bhatt and mahesh bhatt.
Kunal costars for the film were smilie suri, emraan hashmi, ashutosh ranaand amrita singh. The film did average business on the box office. Kunal next flick was madhur bhandarkar traffic signal (2007) opposite neetu chandra. The story of the film revolved around a traffic signal and the lives of beggars and hawkers around it.
Though critically acclaimed, this movie did not do that well at box office. Dhol (2007) was Kunal next film, also starringtusshar kapoor, sharman joshi, rajpal yadav and tanushree dutta. The comedy film was a moderate success at the box office and earned Kunal a nomination for the filmfare awards in the best comedian category.
Superstar (2007) was Kunal last film for 2007, opposite tulip joshi. The film did moderate business at the box office. In 2009 Kunal starred in three movies, dhoondte reh jaaoge (2009), jai veeru (2009) and 99 (2009).
Directed by umesh shukla, dhoondhe reh jaaoge (2009) was a comedy film starring soha ali khan, sonu sood and paresh rawal. Jai veeru (2009) was an actioncomedy starring fardeen khan, dia mirza and anjana sukhani (2009) directed by krishna dk and Raj Nidimoru, was again a comedy starring Kunal khemu with boman irani, soha ali khan, cyrus broacha, mahesh manjrekar and vinod khanna. even after receiving positive response from the critics, (2009) failed to do much business at the box office.
Collectively, all films in 2009 starring Kunal were flops by varying margin. Kunal will be seen in the laughter riot golmaal3 directed by rohit shetty, starring ajay devgn kareena kapoor, tusshar kapoor, arshad warsi and shreyas talpade. The film slated to release in diwali season of 2010. Kunal Khemu is currently dating Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan.
