Recently, the Lakers became the top team in the NBA Western Conference after beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 97-88 without their leader and superstar guard Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant.
With their hard earned victory against the Timberwolves the team is now assured of home-court advantage in the whole duration of the NBA playoffs in the NBA Western Conference.
Spanish basketball superstar center Pau Gasol lead the assault for the Lakers in the absence of Bryant scoring 29 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Lakers veteran power forward Lamar Odom also added 13 points and took away 12 rebounds to ensure the team wins against the Timberwolves.
Timberwolves sensational rookie point-guard Jonny Flynn for his part top-scored for his team scoring 19 points in a losing cause.
Rising power-forward Kevin Love also added 12 points and took 18 rebounds to help his team against the Lakers.
To defeat the Timberwolves, the Lakers took it inside taking advantage of the height and power of Gasol against his younger and smaller guards.
The Lakers also used tremendous outside shooting to frustrate and defeat the Timberwolves.
Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis praised the Lakers for their win and said that his former team has a good chance of successfully defending their NBA crown this year.
Rambis said the Lakers team has good players in every position that will surely create headache on their opponents come NBA playoffs.
