One of the very strange aquatic or some time non aquatic creatures are hermit crabs. These are owned by many of the pet lovers around the country and loved like any thing. These crabs are special in many ways and bring a sudden attention of anyone who is unfamiliar with their existence. Pet crabs are available to own in the pet stores in the market or online these days. A serious pet enthusiast should once go through and figure out this wonderful creature to get the knowledge of this typically different animal. Their interesting living culture and appearance would definitely bring amazement to the eyes.

There are basically two types of hermit crabs, one which lives and prefer to stay at sea or aquatic areas originally and other which prefers to live on the land. One kind of these species are found in the Caribbean areas as specific place of origin and can be identified as a roundish eye shaped typical hermit crab, unlike them there are Ecuadorian crabs found in the regions of Ecuador with their specialty of long eye shape and bright color of their skin. Many wild life researchers makes the study on these small creatures about their strange behavior of being nocturnal and adapting a shell for survival and so on.

Apart from this, it is important to know that only these common land hermit crab species are basically sold in the United States. Unlike the typical aquatic hermit crab that requires salt water for survival, the land hermit crabs are totally opposite and follow simple ways of survival by easily adapting to normal moist conditions with suitable temperature to adjust for them selves.

The land hermit crab species are absolutely easy to own and with simple steps taken that are learned on the tips of the pet seller they can be kept with real charm and ecstasy. Of course like every species they too have delicate and soft skin and require shell as a shield or a cover. These crabs physiologically are far stronger than the marine ones, and can easily adapt according to the land environment and changing atmospheric conditions and thus make a better choice for keeping it as a pet.
