Large Pore Care

Large pores, oily skin and blackheads are skin maladies that many of us suffer from, myself included. We are not, however, necessarily stuck with our less-than-perfect complexion. All it takes is a few minutes and dollars worth of skin care product every day.

Whatever your skin problems and whatever type of skin you have, a good skin care routine starts with a facial wash. A gentle cleanser will remove dirt and oil from the surface of the skin. I wash my face twice a day for best results, but if you have very sensitive skin you might only be able to do it once a day.

The second inexpensive and simple way to clear pores is a facial pore mask. A mask with kaolin or bentonite clay acts by removing oil and dirt from the pores. You can find masks priced anywhere from $5 to over $100, but I find that once priced at around $20 offer the best combination of performance and value.

Kaolin (and, to a lesser extent, bentonite) is all-natural absorbent that has been used for many years to remove impurities and absorb oil. While regular use of a facial mask is likely effective on mild acne, there are masks available with additives for additional acne fighting power. Benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, sulfur, peppermint, or salicylic acid are all great additives to fight acne.

For sensitive skin, facial masks with soothing additives are a good option. Aloe vera, chamomile, lemon grass oil, or shea butter are the most common. They moisten the skin and reduce irritation. I recommend these additives for every potential pore mask buyer, not only those with sensitive skin.

A pore mask should be applied twice a week for best results. For most women, the simple combination of regular cleansing and mask application is enough to promote a healthy, clear complexion.
