Laser Facelift: Know About The Procedure And Its Recovery
One cosmetic procedure that is steadily growing in popularity is the laser facelift
. Just like the more conventional surgical procedure, the laser procedure can be effective in reducing wrinkles and making the skin look more youthful and refreshed.
Though it isn't always a replacement for the conventional methods, it does end up being the choice that a lot of people make once they find out that it will give them the results that they're seeking. Since it does not involve cutting into the skin with a surgical instrument and is therefore less risky, it's reasonable to consider it as an option.
Is it for You?
It should be stated right away that if you have deep wrinkles and acutely sagging facial skin, then you probably will want the more conventional type of facelift. The laser surgery, though effective, works with the top layers of skin, and is most effective for fine lines and wrinkles that are not overly pronounced.
It will encourage the growth of new skin collagen, which will result in some skin tightening, but it generally isn't effective for seriously sagging skin. If you want smoother skin that simply looks more refreshed and youthful, and you're not worried about deep wrinkles or sagging right now, laser could be for you.
When a laser facelift is done, the top layers of the skin are actually burned away with a focused beam of laser light. This may sound harsh, but it is a very precise surgery, and if done by an experienced cosmetic surgeon, it leaves absolutely no scarring.
The laser can go as shallow or as deep as the doctor wants, and in most cases the dermal layer of the skin, where the collagen is, is worked on as well, causing the collagen tissue to tighten. This results in tighter and more youthful looking skin all over, plus it can completely erase many fine lines. The laser can be directed to only certain parts of the face, or the entire face, including the forehead and chin, can be treated.
Recovery
With a laser facelift, you will usually be given a mild sedative, and then a local anesthetic will be used. The exception would be if a very large area will be treated and the procedure will last longer than usual. It is almost always day surgery, which means you can go home on the same day.
There will be some pain or discomfort for a few days after the procedure, and the treated areas will look red, raw, and possibly weepy for a few days as well. It's important to follow the doctors instructions about protecting your face for a few weeks, but normal activities can usually be resumed within one week.
For some people, a laser facelift is exactly what they are looking for. If you are considering a cosmetic procedure for your face, talk about a laser surgery with a reputable cosmetic surgery to see if it would be right for you.
