Laser claddning, injection moulding and flame spray information
Cladding
Cladding is the bonding together of dissimilar metals. It is distinct from welding or gluing as a method to fasten the metals together. Cladding is often achieved by extruding two metals through a die as well as pressing or rolling sheets together under high pressure.
Laser
Laser cladding is a method of depositing material by which a powdered or wire feedstock material is melted and consolidated by use of a laser in order to coat part of a substrate or fabricate a near-net shape part.
It is often used to improve mechanical properties or increase corrosion resistance, repair worn out parts, and fabricate metal matrix composites.
Benefits with laser cladding
Products obtained with the laser cladding process provide corrosion resistance, wear resistance and higher hardness. These properties come from the material that is applied with the laser cladding.
Here are some industries there laser cladding is common:
steel
papermaking
food processing
waste recycling
oil drilling
Injection moulding
Injection molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials. Material is fhotaged into a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools and hardens to the configuration of the mold cavity.
Flame spray
Flame spraying is part of a wider group of coating processes known as thermal spraying. In these processes, a consumable (usually a powder or a wire) is heated and propelled onto a substrate to form a coating. Flame spraying is the oldest of the thermal spraying processes. A wide variety of materials can be deposited as coatings using this process and the vast majority of components are sprayed manually.
What is Thermal Surfacing?
Thermal surfacing is a method to improve the surface properties of base metals. The method extend the operative life of expensive equipment. A good solution that saves your money and time.
Some Features and Benefits with thermal surfacing.
Correct machining errors
Create high surface wear resistance
Improve surface corrosion resistance
Make surfaces chemically resistant
Impart heat resistance to surfaces
Increase or lower surface friction
Repair worn/cracked surfaces
Thermal spraying
Thermal spraying techniques are coating processes in which melted (or heated) materials are sprayed onto a surface. The "feedstock" (coating precursor) is heated by electrical (plasma or arc) or chemical means (combustion flame).
Powder Welding
Powder welding results in a smooth, dense coating with a diffusion bond to the base material. A standard oxy-acetylene torch is used, with the powder fed into the flame from an attached hopper. Typically used for glass moulds, smaller parts and repairs. Particularly suited for the repair of cast iron and machined parts.
