Late President Yar'Adua Left No Clear Legacy

May 23, 2010

As Nigerians continue to mourn the death of it's first University educated president the country ever had since independence, we extend our deepest sorrow and regret to the pain of his death on his family, particularly his wife Turai and his nine children. President Yar Adua may be dead but the good and evil each person committed on mother earth will always be there for posterity.

President Yar Adua to this writer was a weak and corrupt president. At the time Yar Adua became the president, I wrote a published article in 1997 titled "Please do not let Yar Adua fail as President "(reference www.gamji.com)

".President Yar Adua listened to those who did not demonstrate proven record towards economic reforms for Nigeria which the former President Aremu Obasanjo initiated despite his good intention as president for 8 years was overwhelmed with his desire to frustrate former Vice President Abubakar Atiku from succeeding him. OBJ failed to protect constitutionally the entire legal framework that would have enshrined a lasting legacy towards a strong, lasting democracy and economic freedom for a country that can compete head to head with developed nations in all fields. .." I wrote further

"..President Musa Yar'Adua must be freed from the bondage of his Attorney General who should be replaced now not tomorrow but now, his myopic Finance Minister who believed we should go about borrowing must be sent back to school for re-orientations, you don't borrow when you are making money infact you consolidate, the economic council must be reconstituted to included the Governor of Central bank not just as member but as chairman and the watchful eyes of EFCC" .

After almost 30 months in office the late President removed both the EFCC and CBN Governor from Economic Council, he destroyed the EFCC with the removal of the EFCC chairman in a crude method, not enough, he destroyed Mallam Nuru Ribadu Police career. He appointed a humming ex police Chief Madam Waziri to replace Ribadu as Chairman of EFCC, not enough he appointed questionable people to offices which were all rubber stamped by contract loving members of the Senate and allowed corrupt Ex-Governors and serving Governors to escape justice, he played lip service to rule of law, and egalitarian society.

President Yar Adua turned his back to creation of state and city police, he did not do a follow up to the Freedom of Information Bill which Obasanjo refused to sign into law despite public opinion, he changed many of the progressive foundations laid by his predecessor on economic reforms, he was not only a slow President he was one of the weakest we have ever had since independence

Late Yar Adua perhaps the only president in the world with apostrophe in his name was not even sincere to the constitution he sworn to uphold, he never trusted his vice president, he never handed over or transferred leadership to his VP even on hospital bed as demanded by the constitution and the National Assembly , he saw presidency as personal like family chieftaincy title that must be kept in the family, he never trusted western world even at the point of death, he wanted special medical treatment from Saudi Arabia noted for prayers only not medical excellence, at the point of death he failed to seek medical help from America and other European countries that could prolong his life, he created unconstitutional cabal to run the office of Presidency with his wife and minister for justice and Petroleum Minister in charge.

President Musa Yar Adua would be remembered for the creation of Niger Delta ministry and settlement with militants, the release of sized billions of naira Lagos State local government money by Aremu Obasanjo, but history will also remember his failure to follow constitutional handing over process and blatant disregard of the directive of the Senate on writing a simple letter to transfer power to his Vice President, history would recall his BBC talk show on his health, instead of Nigeria press, his beliefs in spiritual powers with mallams or marabous in the Aso Rock, he would in future be checked if the signature on the Supplementary appropriations budget Bill signed in foreign land was indeed his own or a forged one. President Yar Adua's wife may not escape the judgment of history how she made mockery of the presidency and arrogated powers to herself at a time when the country needed to move on without her ailing husband.

Despite the late President commercialized Masters degree credentials as the first and most educated President to ever ruled Nigeria since independence he behaviors in office was a suspect, he donated his female children like gifts or zakats to serving governors as wives, his modern world views was no better than that of child molester Senator Yarima a former governor who married a minor and used religion to cover up shameless activity. These are my sincere and truthful assessment of his presidency. His death was the only savior to the future of democracy in Africa largest place for black man. All the actions taken by the late president in the last six months preceding his death could not pass simple six Allen cognitive theory or Ranchos los Amigos principle on rational behavior

Until we Nigerians learn as a people to question our leaders before any election or appointment confirmation by the National Assembly, find out what their views and hopes represent without the cover up of religion, ethnicity, or regional affiliations, which will be time when good leadership will emerged from Africa largest democracy. Western world doctrine on democracy may not be perfect to some of us but it provides faster opportunity to move in 21st Century, those who are interested in elective offices must go through regional primaries and debates on National television in which citizens can ask questions that will be the time tribalism and religious sentiment will go away and better leaders will emerge in Nigeria and indeed Africa. God Bless Nigeria
