Lavasa - The Well Planned City
About an hour's drive out from Pune is Lavasa
, the private planned city project is being built near Pune. This 25,000 acres project is being developed by Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), an integrated group spanning Construction, Real Estate and Infrastructure development.
Ever since its launch, Lavasa was caught in many controversies which prompted the environment ministry to order a stay of construction activities at Lavasa. The many scams that Lavasa has been involved in include illegal land procurement, environmental hazards and loan procurement by illegal methods including political corruption. The ministry has given a go ahead for Lavasa projects and the construction activities are on full swing here.
Lavasa is located in the midst of the majestic Sahyadris, between Mumbai and Pune, nestled in a green valleys surrounded by luxuriant, undulating hills, clouds and seasonal waterfalls. Situated at 3000 feet above sea level, Lavasa is a self contained town where people can live in harmony with nature.
Lavasa is being planned for approximately 0.3 million permanent residents with facilities for about 2 million tourists every year and an employment base of approximately 97,000. Accommodation options in Lavasa range from budget to luxury hotels and a variety of restaurants ensure that every palate is catered to.
Goan and Mediterranean themed villas and apartments radiate outwards from the cosmopolitan town centre all along the lakefront. Here, residents and visitors can access state-of-the-art amenities while enjoying the tranquillity of wide-open expanses and a scenic natural waterfront.
Other than the residential, commercial and office spaces, planned sports facilities that include a golf course, a football academy, and a hockey academy.
A theme park which is spread 65 acres has also been planned. This water sports park has activities like pontoons, bumper boats, jet skiing, water volleyball and pedal boats. Other activities include Paint Ball, Backpacking and Camping, Cave Excursion and Jungle Trek, Hiking, Rappelling, Rock Climbing, Valley Crossing, Waterfall Rappelling and Rock Climbing, Cycling, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Kayaking and Zorbing.
Lavasa has many world class educational institutions that include a university in partnership with the Oxford University. A hospitality management college, Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa, has opened here.
Other conveniences include a 200 acre health and wellness center and a herb plantation.
