In the second quarter of the twentieth century

, radical changes in design surfaced. The Art Deco style which is famous for its decorative design and focus on exotic materials achieved its apogee in 1925. After the era of the architectural style, it slowly diminished giving way to numbers of modernist reformers in the sector. These reformers pushed the idea that beauty of a thing doesnt depend on ornament, but through manipulation in the use of colors, texture and form.

By 1919 Bauhaus, the famous school of arts and crafts became the centre of avant-garde designs. The school produced numerous artists, designers and architects which some of them are designers Lszl Moholy-Nagy, Wilhelm Wagenfeld and Marianne Brandt, painters Paul Klee, Vasily Kandinsky and Oskar Schlemmer and Josef Albers and architects Marcel Breuer, Gropius and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

But amongst all the reformists, it was Le Corbusier who displayed the strongest resistance against the Art Deco society. Charles-douard Jeanneret, also known as Le Corbusier is a Swiss writer, designer, architect and urbanist, renowned for being amongst of the pioneers of the modern architecture.

In 1925, Charles-douard Jeannerets Pavilion de l'Esprit Nouveau showed a powerful denial on the utilization of the luxurious foreign materials which are exemplified in Art Deco. With his aggressive thinking and ideas, he classified furniture as "domestic equipment" whilst the house as a "machine for living in." His pavilion was an example of a common house which is provided with regularly available items like Leather Sofas.

In 1929, he teamed up with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret to commence "Grand Confort" for the Salon d'Automne in Paris. The design is recognized as "Le Corbusier" collection featuring chaise-longue LC4, the armchair LC2 or the sling chair LC1, and has become the most celebrated single style sofa set of the 20th century and the most popular design ever.
