Home remodeling can definitely increase the beauty and functionality of any room or space

. Many different things can be done to improve the look and feel of a room from a simple coat of fresh paint to a complete room addition, the options are many. One great way to upgrade an area of your home is by installing new floors.

A floor type or pattern can complete change the look and theme of a room. There are so many flooring installation options that it can be difficult to choose which one you like the best. Added value and the ease or price of flooring installations should also be considered.

Probably the easiest type of floor installation that can even be done by a do it yourself homeowner, is a self adhesive laminate floor. They can come in a big piece or in smaller 1 foot squares that are installed individually until the entire floor is covered. These laminate flooring systems come in various qualities and prices. Some of the cheaper versions are very thin and might not hold up as well as some of the more expensive thicker types that can take more abuse.

Another type of flooring installation is a wood floor. Wooden floors can be expensive but there are cheaper types that may interest you. Real solid wood flooring is the most expensive but can add a lot of value to a home. Other types are actually engineered wood flooring, which are basically pieces of particle board glued together with a thin piece of real wood on the top. It is all real wood but it just is not a complete solid piece of wood like a solid wood floor. Real wood flooring can be sanded many times to restore the finish while the engineered wood can only be restored and sanded a few times before it would have to be replaced.

One more great option for flooring that is being used everywhere now, not just in kitchens and bathrooms like it used to be, is ceramic flooring. The important part when doing a flooring installation using ceramic tile or any type of flooring is to be sure you have a good level subfloor material installed. When a level subfloor is not present, the ceramic can crack or chip easily because it is on an unlevel surface.

The subflooring provides a perfectly level solid base for the ceramic to be adhered to. Ceramic tile is probably one of the hardest types of floor installations for a homeowner to tackle themselves. Ceramic can only be cut using a special type of saw and all the pieces have to be adhered using tile adhesive. After the floor is installed, tile grout is spread over the tiles to fill in the gaps in between each tile. It does take some experience and skill to do it right.

Recently, there has been an outbreak of other types of flooring installation products. Some are engineered manmade type materials that are made to resemble ceramic tile but is simply installed using what is known as a floating system where no adhesive or nails are used. These products are pretty durable and can be a good alternative to real ceramic tile.
