Learn Dream Interpretation From Bible
Many believe that God still talk to man with dreams even today
. Dream interpretation is mentioned in different stories mentioned in the bible. So how to interpret the dreams we or others have? Let's look at Joseph's life.
Joseph is called the dream interpreter. He gave some of the most classic examples of dream interpretation in the Bible. Joseph was the youngest son of Israel, who was called Jacob, son of Isaac back in that time. Among the 12 sons, Joseph was the most beloved one of Jacob and that makes all his brothers envious.
One night, Joseph had a dream. He saw that he and his brothers were working in the field binding sheaves. And Joseph's sheaf arose and stood while his brothers' sheaves also stood roundabout and bow to Joseph's sheaf. Being an immature child and perhaps a little bit arrogant, he told his brothers about this dream. And his brothers can immediately understand the meaning of the dream, which is that Joseph is going to reign over them. The result is obvious. The eleven brothers hated Joseph even more.
In another night, Joseph had another dream again. This time he saw the sun, the moon and eleven stars bowed to him. Without stopped by the fear of further provocation, he told the dream to his father and brothers. They were all angry because they can all understand the implications of the dream, which is Israel, his wife and sons, are bowing to Joseph. All the brothers are filled with envy. But Israel pondered about the dreams because he knew, feel that the dreams have some significance.
The dreams and the attitude of little Joseph irritated his brothers. The terrible sinful hearts of the eleven brothers were even thinking about killing this little brother together.
What we can learn from story is that prophetic dreams do exist because we know from the bible that the dreams came true at the end. Sometimes prophetic dreams are easy to interpret. Just like these two dreams, people listened to them immediately reacted which means he knew the meaning behind the dreams. But what we also learn is that the fact that you had a prophetic dream from God does not necessarily mean that you should tell everyone else. Sometimes God meant to give you insights so that you can be humble and obey God. Like Joseph, I think God gave him the dreams to encourage him to endure. But out of pride, Joseph told the dreams and brought terrible results. Sin is really bad.
So I pray that we all receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit when trying to interpret prophetic dreams. I also pray for wisdom to know that when it is the right timing to tell someone else about dreams of your own or others.
