Learn How To Find The Perfect Suit
Every man should own at least one suit
Every man should own at least one suit. So how do you choose the right one?
Getting a suit tailor made is ideal, but in todays economy custom suits do not fit into the average guys budget. Pricing is often the deciding factor when selecting a suit, so like most men you're left purchasing suits off the rack. Not that it's a bad thing, prices are usually very competitive and you get choose from all the latest styles. On the other hand, many department stores suits and designer brands are not top notch in terms of quality and fit, all the more reason to follow our step by step guide and learn how to find the perfect suit for your style and budget.
1. Make sure it's properly made.
If you're paying thousands for a tailored suit, it should be the best. That means it's hand-stitched and fully canvassed, not "fused" or semi-canvassed. This is basic, and it makes a world of difference.
2. Choose the right fabric
For an everyday suit, go for something under Super 100's, which is more durable. If you need something cooler that will let you breathe, go for the Super 200's, which is a finer fabric.
3. The right fit
Be sure to deal with an experienced tailor when you're getting fitted for a suit. A very and correctly fitted suit is key for getting the perfect look.
4. Choosing the right slacks
Todays trend is to cut your slacks like low-rise jeans or with a boot cut. This style favors a slimmer body, and allows the pants to fit over your shoes, for a clean look. You can also opt for the higher cut for a more elongated silhouette.
5. Get a shirt that fits
Take the time to find a shirt that fits as closely as possible. No substitutes.
6. Color
It's ok to wear different shaders of color, but be sure to contrast the color or your shirt and tie with your suit. Navy and dark blue suits are great with pastels, but if you're wearing a black suit, choose a more neutral color like gray or blue.
7. Accessories
If you decide to contrast your color, you will also want to make sure your socks and cufflinks are the same hue. A sharp pair of cufflinks can really make a suit.
8. Find a quality tailor
A suit will never live to it's full potential without a great tailor. You can buy off the rack, but be sure that the shoulder and torso fit correctly, and your tailor can handle the rest. Don't wait until the last minute for tailoring and risk your suit not being ready for that big interview or special event.
