Learning to play piano as an adult can offer many of the same advantages that people experience when they learn as children. Music study teaches a particular type of discipline that also offers its own rewards. Learning to play music uses the brain differently than the way it is used in most other daily tasks.
Studying the piano is relaxing and some people compare it to meditation. Zen masters say that perfecting ones art is a way of perfecting oneself. The time spent focused on the piano is a break from other thoughts.
