I have said it so many times, I feel like a broken record

, but it really is true. One size does not fit all and no single horse racing system can work for every person who uses it. To the best of my knowledge, after fifty years of horse racing, I have never found a method of picking winners that automatically makes a profit. I'm sorry, but if that is what you're looking for, then this information is not for you.

There is no automatic method of picking stocks or commodities to invest in and there is no method that tells which horse will win a race so well that it always makes a profit. The real benefit of a good handicapping method is that it helps you to structure your thoughts and learn how to use factors to arrive at conclusions that move your own ability of picking winners forward.

If you buy a horse racing system and give it a fair run and find that you now know more about horse racing, then it was well worth the investment. Whether it teaches you something you didn't know, or convinces you to use a factor or method that you knew, but failed to use in the past, the handicapping system did its job.

The important factor in choosing a system is how it will suit you. Before you buy, ask yourself what you are looking for. Sitting down with a paper and pencil for a few minutes might not only help you to choose the right one, but might also help you to define your goals and make things clearer for you. One of the biggest problems we all face is an overload of information. We start out with the best of intentions, but as the day wears on our mind gets more and more cluttered until when post time finally comes around we are confused and make bad choices.

If only the races started before lunch instead of in the afternoon, more of us would probably make better decisions. By writing that list you will streamline your own search for the tools you need to make a profit betting on horses. Write your overall goal, such as make $500 per week betting on horses. Next, start by writing where you are now. Are you losing every week? Are you behind? Write it down. Now you know where you are and where you want to go

Finally, start writing some things you like about horse racing and handicapping. You will find that the things you like can be developed into strengths a lot easier than things you hate. Do you like watching the horses before the races? Maybe you should investigate sight handicapping and develop that more. Are you a numbers person and love crunching numbers? Then start learning more statistics. Look for a system that uses those things that suit your personality and it will be easier to succeed.
