Learn to Play Guitar - Composing a Solo
There is no real 'correct' way to go about composing a solo, and it can seem even more daunting if you can't read music (although not being able to read music has never stopped me).
As long as you match the key of the song that are you are adding a lead break to, and cone up with a good way to start and finish the instrumental section, then the space between can pretty much be your playground. Another tip for a good solo is to try not to be too flashy, or you risk it sounding rushed and incomprehensible.
Showing off your skills is always fun, but a little restraint can transform an okay solo into a brilliant one. Plus, while it's great to have your own style, try not to keep on playing the same old things all of the time, or your lead work will sound dull when tracks are played next to each other. Be inventive!
Don't be afraid of trying new things when coming up with your solos- they are meant to be a showcase for your talents as a musician, so get out there and show the world what you can do.
Keep it within the boundaries of the song and keep it within the realms of sanity, and you will be able to come up a truly memorable solo that you can build on and gain more inspiration from for yet more music. Composing a great guitar solo to rival those classics by the guitar legends you listen to has to start somewhere, and while you learn guitar skills, that somewhere is right in your hands.
