Legalization Of Marijuana What Are The Risks And Benefits?

One of the hottest legal topics talked about today is the legalization of marijuana

. Some people are for it and some are against it. There are positive things about it and there are negative things about it. In the United States there have been thousands of arrests all over the country for possession of marijuana. The United States government allows us freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and more, so the question becomes, Why cant people be allowed to smoke what they want? After all, it is their life. Tobacco, alcohol, legal drugs, caffeine, and aspirin have killed more people in this world than marijuana.

Marijuana does not cause serious health problems. It does not impair long term memory and does not lead to harder drugs as many people say. Marijuana does not kill brain cells, induce violent behavior, and overdose from it is impossible. Studies show that there are no bodily differences with marijuana smokers and non marijuana smokers. Marijuana is also used in medical instances for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. It also relieves people from stress and calms them. It may also broaden a persons creative thinking.

On the down side, marijuana may cause lack of proper coordination, distorted perception, and increased heart rate. High doses of it can cause hallucinations, delusions, and disorientation. Burning, stinging in the mouth and throat are some of the negative side effects of smoking weed. Pregnant women are more likely to give birth to babies with neurological problems if they smoke while pregnant. The thc found in marijuana impairs the bodys immune system from fighting off diseases. Marijuana smokers are more at risk to develop head and neck cancer than non smokers. Marijuana can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. People are going to continue smoking it whether it gets legalized or not. The question remains, though, that if it is used for medical purposes already, why is it still wrong for people to smoke it?
