Less Mess With These Home Improvement Tips

We all lead busy lives, so coming home to a mess at the end of the day can be quite discouraging

. If you have children and/or pets, this scenario is probably one you face regularly. So what are a few adjustments you can make around your home to make it easier to clean, which will mean less stress for you? Let me give you some hints.

One of the best things that my parents ever did for their home was replace their carpet with hardwood floors. They decided to execute this change after all five of us children caught the stomach flu around the same time. Unfortunately, my parents were caught between the desire to clean up when we were ill and the need to care for us.

It paid off for them in the long run. On any given day, our family included more pets than most people have in a lifetime, so it became easier to clean up after them, too. Hardwood floors tend to last longer and require less maintenance than carpet. Plus, they look stunning when you choose high quality materials and have a professional company install them.

Many people aren't too keen on the idea of their entire home being comprised of hardwood flooring, and I can't say I blame them. After all, it is nice to walk in the door and feel the soft fibers on your tired feet. But that means you need to perform some tasks for its upkeep.

I try to vacuum my living room every day so that when a special occasion arises (having a party, etc.), I am not spending ages trying to rid the carpet of layers of dust and animal hair.

Many carpet cleaning companies offer a spray-on stain guard to keep spills from ruining otherwise beautiful carpet. Call a few businesses in your area to ask some questions. The same product is available for furniture, too, so ask about that while you're at it. Make sure that you refresh that layer of stain guard at the intervals recommended by whichever company you hire to do it.

Storage, storage, storage! If you are returning to a cluttered home at the end of the day, then it can make your mind feel out of sorts as well.

Look for areas in which you can implement practical storage, whether it's through boxes, shelves, or an additional closet. When my spouse and I were trying to round out the seating in our front room, we purchased an ottoman that contained a storage compartment, and it made the room feel much less crowded.
