Let a Dinette Become a Dining Area in Your Apartment

If you live in a one-bedroom apartment, a separate dining space is considered a luxury. Nevertheless, eating in your living room, likely in front of your television, has become dull, and studies have indicated that those who eat and watch television at the same time do not pay attention to the amount of food they consume. While a full dining table is not a possibility, a dinette can fit in your space in the kitchen or in the corner of a large living room and match your style.

Dinette sets come in two styles: two-chair, bistro sets and four-chair dining sets. If your apartment lacks in space, a two-chair set may be right for you. If you regularly have guests over, however, something larger may be more useful.

Dinette chairs, additionally, should be considered. Stationary chairs, without a caster base, take up less space and can be stacked. Swivel caster seats, which are common for many dinette sets, may be more comfortable and offer armrests; however, they take up more space. If you are looking for comfort and have the space in your apartment, consider the comfort of caste swivel seats.

Like any other dining furniture, dinettes come in several styles, and finding a set to match your dcor should not be difficult. Dinette styles, on the other hand, come down to three looks: contemporary, traditional, and retro.

Traditional dinettes are made out of wood or laminate with a wood-like appearance. For either type, a wood round or square-top table is accompanied by multiple matching cushioned chairs. Durability may be a quality you need, particularly if you have small children, and laminate sets tend to hold up to wear and tear without scratching.

Contemporary dinettes often forego wood altogether and, instead, use a combination of metal and glass. Ideal for spaces with minimalist dcor, contemporary dinette sets typically consist of a glass top table with a metal base and two or four upholstered metal chairs. With distinct lines or curves, contemporary styles may not appear to offer many style options, but much like wood, metal can come in several finishes and may be designed with cutouts.

As retro styles have returned in clothing and in music, why not in dcor as well? Give your apartment a classic touch by going with a retro-style dinette. Designed with the chrome finish popular in diners of the 1950s and 60s and with upholstered seats, a retro dinette can become a fun place for dining in your apartment.
