Let's Have A Look At The 7 Most Easterly Canadian Provinces And Territories

If you're considering Canada immigration, the eastern part of the country is often

recommended and therefore starting in the centre and moving right, the following is a list, along with information, of the seven most easterly provinces and territories.

1. Manitoba - known for housing one of the largest Ukrainian communities in the world outside of the Ukraine itself, Manitoba features in excess of 110,000 lakes in 250,000 square miles.

Within Manitoba, two thirds of the province's entire population live in or around the capital of Winnipeg, with 633,451 people living in the area according to the 2006 census. The remaining residents live in relatively equal percentages across the province, with Brandon the only area coming close in terms of population size with 41,511 residents.

2. Ontario - the most populous part of the country, Ontario has a permanent population of 13,167,894 people, with the vast majority of them being English (25 percent), Canadian (23 percent), Scottish (18 percent), Irish (17 percent) and French (11 percent). The remaining residents are then from a range of different countries, from India to China and the Philippines to Jamaica.

3. Quebec - arguably most popular for the fact it is the only part of Canada where French is one of the more dominating languages, it is the largest province in terms of size and is second only to Nunavut as being the largest in the whole of Canada, as the province stretches over almost 600,00 square miles.

Unlike the majority of the other areas, Quebec has had a thriving population for many decades, having a population of in excess of one million residents since the 1861 census.

4. Newfoundland and Labrador - famous for being the destination where two of the most sought after, respected and loved dogs come from (the Newfoundland Dog and the Labrador Retriever), the province was originally known simply as Newfoundland but was changed on 6 December 2001 to incorporate the Labrador addition.

Due to it's location in the country, Newfoundland and Labrador receives some fairly mild winters in comparison to other areas, with the average winter low in some parts of the province only dropping to minus 8 degrees centigrade.

5. New Brunswick - with both English and French spoken openly in the province of New Brunswick, it is the only part of Canada to officially be bilingual. Having a population that has not changed a great deal over the past 150 years (there has been an influx of approximately 500,000 people over the century and a half), considering it is the second smallest Canadian province, there is a lot to see and do, much of which encourages Canada immigration.

6. Prince Edward Island - the smallest province by far, Prince Edward Island's 141,551 people live in a mere 2,194 square miles, meaning a population density of 62 people in every square mile.

The population of Prince Edward Island has peaked and troughed over the years and whilst it first reached in excess of 100,000 residents in the 1881 census, it fell below the figure for several decades until it hit 104,629 in 1961 and it hasn't been under 100,000 since.

7. Nova Scotia - one of the first provinces to be included in the Canadian Confederation on 1 July 1867 (along with Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick), Nova Scotia is the second smallest province in the whole of the country, but it is also the warmest of them all, with average winter temperatures sometimes being as mild as 5 degrees centigrade.
