Letting Those Close To You Know You Are Divorcing

Living all alone seeing the sad faces of your children is the worst consequence of a divorce

. Divorce is always difficult, even for the partner that decided it was time to end the relationship. You may not realize it, but the news of an impending divorce can have a significant impact on your friends and your family. You are not your friends' keeper but you should open up the discussion with them or they will be gone from your life. Even with being the best of friends a divorce can damage that friendship and you can lose it.

Even though many people may already suspect that you are having marital problems, the news of a divorce will still be a surprise to them. They are going to be impacted by this and as a couple it won't make sense to you. Your not the only one that is at a loss, they are too. For those that spent long hours with each other as couples, this won't stay the same of course. For some of your friends and loved ones that have known you as a couple for many years it can be particularly difficult to see you splitting up.

Something that many couples fail to take into account is the conflict that their friends experience while you and your spouse go through the breakup. Despite their strong emotional attachment to both of you, they may feel they are forced into picking which one they will remain closest to. If you want your friends to still fraternize with both of you, try not to air all of your grievances publicly. As a result, they'll feel so uncomfortable that they won't enjoy being in your presence. It's a good thing to have someone to talk to, but you should lean toward someone who was a friend of yours more so than a friend to you both.

At times during a tough divorce, couples will make the mistake of competing for their friends. Thus, they'll put down the other person around their pals whenever they can. Despite the emotional strength of the relationship you have with someone, you will give them feelings of discomfort. A married couple or those in a relationship often share the same pastimes and hobbies. When people you know are getting a divorce, no one enjoys being brought into the situation and most likely will want out if things get too bad.

You might not have thought about an additional consequence of moving forward with a divorce. Once you experience divorces, people may begin to question their own relationships. This happens in a very natural manner. Some of their marriages will grow stronger while others will divorce just like you. If your friends begin to do this, express to them that you are getting a divorce based on your own reasons, and they may get a new perspective on problems gone unnoticed in their own relationships. A better strategy is to support their efforts to make amends to each other, and to keep in mind their long-term happiness.
