In most cases, individuals with the capability of leading a project are given the position of an assistant and assigned a set of responsibilities. Most individuals start out with tasks which are technical in nature. When it comes to large projects, an individual is given the responsibility of being a project scheduler who can put in the information provided by the management team and update the files as and when necessary. It is a technical position that requires a good deal of managerial skills as well.

The position of a project coordinator is usually occupied by people who have just entered the field. It is basically an administrative position that involves a good deal of paperwork. The coordinator is responsible for generating and distribution of reports that keeps the entire team informed of the various aspects of the project. You also end up scheduling meetings and assisting the management on various issues.

Then there is the project manager who is in charge of leading the entire team, assigning tasks to assistants. The project manager reports directly to the owners of the company.

Some companies have a position for a senior project manager who is responsible for tackling multiple projects at a time. The project managers therefore report to the senior project manager, who is in charge of overseeing the progress of each of these projects, is responsible for the allocation of the company resources and also takes care of the budget issues. The manager is also responsible for determining which project should be treated on a priority basis in comparison to others.

Project management jobs offer rewarding career opportunities and the pay package is a manifestation of that. The compensation package for project manager jobs depends to a large extent on the performance of the individual concerned. On top of that there are additional benefits in the form of incentives, if one can successfully complete a project ahead of the stipulated deadline. Project manager jobs are thus spread over various levels and these include project scheduler, project coordinator, project manager, assistant project manager and senior project manager.
