Leveraging Your Time And Talents With Repurposing

Why perform a task twice when once will suffice

? In this day and age everyone is so busy, it really pays to leverage your time and talents to ensure maximum efficiency.

Are you familiar with the term "repurposing" ? Put simply, it means taking one thing and using it in multiple ways, for multiple purposes. Repurposing is a savvy way to leverage your time and talents, making every effort count to the max.

For example, you can take something you have already put effort into - perhaps a report, executive summary, presentation, notes you used to prepare for a meeting, an audio, or a blog post, and you can repurpose it into multiple other formats.

Perhaps the greatest example of repurposing in the publishing industry includes the series of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. A single concept (publish a collection of heart-warming stories) repurposed in countless variations (Chicken Soup for the Teen's Soul; Chicken Soup for the Golfer's Soul; Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul; etc.)

This is a great way to save time if you need constant content, such as with a blog, podcast or if you need to incorporate training or topical discussions into regular meetings.

In fact, repurposing is something you are probably already doing in some areas of your life, but you can take that concept and expand it to leverage your resources to an even greater degree.

Have you ever spruced up leftovers? That's certainly a form of repurposing. How about recycling? Another form of repurposing.

Take a moment to think right now - what resources have you already invested time, money or energy into? What else could you use those resources for? How can you repurpose them for a new use?

Perhaps you know a killer joke or two. These might serve as excellent icebreakers or segues for your next presentation. Got a great story or anecdote? It would likely make for a relevant blog post. Did some research for a recent project? Why not incorporate the data results into your next lecture or presentation.

Begin to think in terms of repurposing and you will find that you can accomplish more in less time.

For example, the next time you rent a projector for a talk or presentation, you could think of other ways to incorporate the use of that projector in other ways (outside of your talk itself). That's a sure way to get the most bang for your buck.
