It will come as great news to all McLaren fans that earlier this week Lewis Hamilton revealed he had sought out the McLaren boss for crunch talks. However the crunch talks were not of a negative nature, the global superstar was actually trying his best to pledge his future to the team. Clearly Hamilton didnt want to start the new season with any doubt about where his loyalties lay.

There had been many high powered people within the sport saying that the champions from three years ago would make a move to current top team Red Bull. However he seems to have given them a bit of cheap shot by stating that they are just a drinks company. This is clear indication that Hamilton doesnt see Red Bull as a true racing team.

It also seems that maybe Hamilton is trying to start a psychological war of words with the current champions and favourites. In response Mark Webber who was pushing for the title for the whole season in 2010 gave a tongue in cheek response to Hamilton by saying we are just a drinks company when he was asked what the teams chances were in the new season.

Hamilton really has gone the extra mile to make sure the worlds press knows that he is not looking for a new seat. He came out and said categorically that his back room team was not seeking out new employers and he is committed to winning with McLaren.

Hamilton was also clear that he was not looking to cut his career in formula one short. There had been many people saying that the driver may decide to cut his driving career short and enjoy the rest of the trappings that come with success. However Hamilton has put those rumors to rest and has said he does not want to retire as a driver who won just one world championship.

After taking the world championship by storm Hamilton was quickly thrust into the world of celebrity. He has made himself one of the most marketable commodities in the world. He mixes in A list circles and having a Pussycat doll for a girlfriend and Puff Daddy as a pal boosts your stock to the highest level.

However Hamiltons statement was clear he said he looks at the true greats of the sport, people like Schumacher and Rossi. He made it clear that this is the where he wants to be in the sport, he doesnt want to be a celebrity who won one championship.

As the racing season kicks off this weekend it will become clear if Hamilton can push the top teams in this years championship. As we reported earlier this month the first practice sessions had shown that the Red Bull team was head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the pack. It also looked like the McLaren team was set to start the year well of the pace.
