On several occasions I have encountered home owners that complain about their ceiling fan or other fixture blowing out light bulbs in a short time
. The most common problem is with ceiling fans. Most of the problems occur shortly after a change has been made.
From my experience I found that it can be traced back to improper voltage, neutral wire or wires not fastened securely, fixture not mount securely, or excessive vibration from slamming doors, washer or dryer etc.or even a simple thing such as screwing the light bulbs in to tight distorting the spring contact in the center of the socket. If the spring contact has been distorted causing the problem burnt spots will be evident on bottom of the light bulb from arcing. The arcing would melt the solder causing it not work, you shake the bulb it doesn't rattle yet it doesn't work, this could be the problem.
On most occasions the problem they were having was with a ceiling fan, ceiling fans even when they appear smooth can have excessive vibration shortening the bulbs life. For ceiling fans they make special bulbs designed for ceiling fans but if you are having trouble finding a ceiling fan light bulb try using a rough service bulb, this should take care of your problem. Even if the problem socket isn't in a ceiling fan try the ceiling fan bulb in it anyway, it is the cheapest and easiest fix. If the problem still exists it might be time to call an electrician .
