Linksys WRT160N is one of the ultra range plus wireless N Broadband router.

This is one of the N series routers that Linksys has launched. This router has 3 versions. 22d6 Linksys WRT160Nis a cable / DSL router that means it works with cable Internet service provider and DSL Internet service provider.

Linksys has launched a new E series of routers. The E1000is nothing butLinksys WRT160N. The only difference is that E1000 comes with a special Cisco connect software.

How to setup WRT160N router?

If you have CD that comes with the Linksys WRT160N, you can try to run the CD and setup the network. First make sure that your computer is able to access the Internet when connected directly to the modem. If you are able to go on line with the modem that means your modem is working properly. Now connect your main computer and the modem to the Linksys WRT160N. For the initial setup, you will need to connect the computer to the router also. After the initial setup you can make it wireless. If the CD does not work then you can set up manually without the CD. For this you will need to access the router setup page. The setup page is the page where you can change the settings of the network. You will find all the settings on this page. According to the Internet service provider, you can change the settings of the network.

In case of Cable Internet service provider, they use the Mac address of your main computer for the authentication. In case of DSL Internet connection, they use user name and password for the authentication.

Wireless connection and security for Linksys WRT160N router:

You can connect 4 computers to Linksys WRT160N with the Ethernet cable. It has 4 Ethernet ports for the 4 wired computers. If you have more than 4 computers that you would like to connect then you can use a switch to extend the number of ports.

Ideally you can use up to 32 wireless computers in the network using Linksys WRT160N.

Before connecting to the wireless network make sure that you have all the wireless settings of the network. You will need to know the name of the network and the type of security. The type of security supported will be WEP , WPA and WPA2.

Problem connecting to the wireless network or slow Internet:

Many users of Linksys WRT160N had problems connecting to the wireless network or slow Internet access. However if you upgrade the firmware of the router, you will get better speed and connectivity.

Linksys has released new firmware. Firmware is the software of the router. All the bugs or deficiencies can be removed by the upgrade. After upgrading the firmware it is recommended that you should reset the router to the factory default settings and try to setup the router again.
