If you were to ask most people what a lintel is

, or how you can get a lintel replacement done, it is safe to say that you would just get an empty stare in return. Lintel is not something that most people outside of the construction world would know. Even though it sounds like something very mysterious, it is actually a very simple part of any house. If you look at a house or building that has been constructed from bricks, you will see that the doors and windows will be surrounded by some type of brick work. Even though it may look like the bricks are resting on the door and window frames, it is not.

This is where a lintel gets used. A lintel is basically just a fancy term for a piece of metal that is installed between the frame and the bricks. So in actuality the bricks are not resting on the door or window frame, it rests on the lintel. It is in a way a shelf for the bricks to rest on. Unless you went and did a close inspection you would not see it. In most cases it is covered by mortar. The problem is that the lintel over time starts to decay and you will need a lintel replacement done. If this problem goes unchecked for a long period of time, it will not only let in more water from the outside, but may even cause the collapse of the wall itself.

As you can see, this is a potentially dangerous situation and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Lintel replacement requires the help of skilled masons. If need be masonry work will be shored and a new lintel will be installed. Nowadays there are rust proof lintels available. These will generally be zinc coated. It is not only corroded lintel that needs to be replaced. Over a period of time it will bend due to the weight above it. Whichever problem it is, it is something that needs be addressed. This means hiring masons who are highly competent at their job.

High rise repair can be a job fraught with many problems. High rises by nature can be complex, which means dealing with high rise repairs can throw up a lot of unexpected situations. A job like this requires a lot of planning. It also requires the full co-operation of not only the owners and tenants, but also from people who live in neighboring areas. Before work starts, a full assessment of the building is done. After that the infrastructure required will be decided. In most cases scaffolding will be used. The final work will involve anything from brick repair, power washing and lintel replacement. Basically it involves repairing anything that could compromise the safety of the building. In some places it is legally required to do high rise repairs and maintenance on buildings above a certain age and size.
